The Story

Why the NV400 matters

The NV400 was Nissan's version of the third-generation Renault Master, built beside it at SOVAB in Batilly, and it took over from the Interstar. Its premiere came at Hannover in September 2010, the full range was announced on 8 February 2011 and it reached the market that October with its own front end: bonnet, front wings, grille, bumper and headlamps designed at Nissan Design Europe. It spanned 2.8 to 4.5 tonnes gross, offered a choice of front- or rear-wheel drive for the first time among Nissan vans, and came in three wheelbases, four lengths and three heights for 8 to 17 cubic metres. A newly developed Renault 2.3-litre diesel came at launch in 100, 125 and 150 hp with 285 to 350 Nm, smaller in capacity than the Interstar's 2.5 dCi; by 2019 the range read 135, 150 and 180. On 27 September 2021 the van became the Interstar again.
