STORY
Pike car was Nissan's own blanket term for playful, deliberately sharp-edged models premised on small production runs, and three of the four rode on the first-generation March. The Be-1 came first, a 1985 Tokyo Motor Show car sold from January 1987 against a 10,000-car ceiling that filled in roughly two months, after which buyers were drawn by lottery. The Pao and the snail-shaped S-Cargo went on sale together in January 1989, the van using Pulsar components, a 1.5-litre engine and flat sides meant to take advertising. Nissan showed an S-Cargo at the Design Museum in London in July 1989. The Figaro closed the series on 14 February 1991, allocated by lottery in three rounds rather than sold off the shelf.
