STORY
Stanza was a Japanese name before it was an export one. Nissan announced it on August 8, 1977 and sold it from August 25 through Nissan Sunny dealers, a 1,600 cc four-door sedan sharing its structure with the Violet and the Auster; the word is Italian for room. Abroad the same A10 was sold under several badges: Nissan's own release called the works rally car the Datsun Stanza (Datsun 160J/510) when it took the first three places in the 14th Southern Cross Rally in Australia in October 1979, a third straight overall win. The Stanza FX of June 19, 1981 arrived with the Auster JX and the Violet Liberta, and on June 15, 1982 Nissan reported that exports of the Stanza and Violet together had passed a million that May. A new Stanza followed on June 23, 1986. In North America the badge moved from one car to the next into 1993, when the first Altima was sold there as the Stanza Altima.
