STORY
The Sylphy began as a way of keeping the Bluebird name alive. Nissan put the Bluebird Sylphy on sale in Japan on August 30, 2000 through its Blue Stage dealers, coining Sylphy from sylph, the air spirit; in December 2003 two new 1.8-litre grades became the first cars in Japan certified at the SU-LEV level, 75 percent below the 2005 exhaust limits. The G11 of December 21, 2005 moved to the MR20DE and a CVT, and Dongfeng Nissan took the same car to China in 2006 as the Xuan Yi, built at Huadu in Guangzhou and due on sale there that August. Japan dropped the Bluebird half on December 5, 2012, when the B17 arrived as a global sedan meant for some 120 countries, its Japanese cars assigned to the Oppama plant. Then the lines parted: the Sylphy unveiled at Shanghai on April 16, 2019 was aimed at China, which had begun building an electric Sylphy in 2018 and saw an e-POWER version in 2021.
