STORY

Nissan launched the Vanette on 16 November 1978 as two cars from one design, the Sunny Vanette and the Cherry Vanette for two dealer chains, added a Datsun Vanette for Nissan stores on 26 March 1980, and only merged the three badges into a plain Vanette in November 1986; Aichi Machine Industry engineered and built them, and the wider Vanette Largo branched off in September 1982. The C22 of September 1985 was the last of Nissan's own design: the passenger Coach went its own way as the Vanette Serena in June 1991, and in-house production stopped in March 1994 after sixteen years. From April 1994 the Vanette van and truck were rebadged Mazda Bongos, a trade Nissan put at about 23,000 a year in 2006, traded against the AD Van that Nissan supplied to Mazda as the Familia Van. The truck left the range in July 2016 and the van in June 2017.
