STORY

The Ascona C arrived in 1981 and was Opel's version of General Motors' front-wheel-drive J-car platform, which ended up under many badges. The Vectra replaced it in 1988. The earlier rear-drive Ascona B had its sporting peak in rallying: Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdörfer won the 1982 Monte Carlo Rally in an Ascona 400 with about 260 horsepower by Röhrl's account, and Röhrl took the drivers' world title the same year.
