Opel launched the Monterey in 1992, a year after the Frontera. It was a large off-roader built by Isuzu, essentially the second-generation Isuzu Trooper with an Opel badge. The three-door Monterey RS had a short wheelbase and four seats, the five-door a long one, and the seven-seat version carried the LTD name. Launch engines were a 3.1-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel with 114 PS and a 3.2-litre V6 petrol with 177 PS. The 1998 facelift brought a 3.5-litre V6 with 215 PS and a 3.0-litre turbodiesel with 159 PS. Four-wheel drive with a reduction gearbox was standard, no lockable differential was offered. Opel stopped importing it in April 1999.
The Isuzu Trooper sold as an Opel/Vauxhall in 1992-1999: a body-on-frame 4x4 with a 3.2 V6 and a 3.1 turbo-diesel, sold across Europe.
