The Omega replaced the Rekord in 1986 as Opel's large rear-wheel-drive saloon, and it won the European Car of the Year title for 1987 with 275 points. The Omega A also gave the Lotus Omega, a 3.6-litre twin-turbo model with 377 hp. The Omega B followed in 1994, with six-cylinder turbodiesels supplied by BMW, and it was also sold in America as the Cadillac Catera, a rebadged car. A V8 version was planned, but production was cancelled after 32 prototypes. Production ended in 2003.
Opel's rear-drive executive flagship, built 1986-2003, one of the last big rear-wheel-drive Opels and the basis of the Lotus Carlton.
