STORY

Peugeot put the 106 on sale on 12 September 1991 with four-cylinder TU engines: petrol from 954 to 1,587 cc, diesel from 1,360 cc. The top petrol was the 1.6-litre sports version, called S16 in France and sold as the GTi in the UK, which arrived with the 1996 phase two cars and made about 120 hp. A battery-powered 106 Electric was also built, about 3,500 of them. The model ran until 2003, with nearly 2.8 million cars made in twelve years.
