STORY

Work on the 309 began in 1982 as project C28, the replacement for the Talbot Horizon, planned under the name Talbot Arizona. The Talbot badge was dropped and the car went on sale as a Peugeot. Production began in 1985, Diesels arrived in 1986, a three-door in 1987. The GTI went on sale in the UK in June 1987. About 1.6 million 309s were built, according to Petrolblog and Lancaster. Catalogues date the end of production to 1993 or 1994.
