Pininfarina designed and built the 406 Coupe in Italy, and the car was first shown at the Paris show in 1996, with production usually dated from 1997. It launched with a 2.0-litre four rated at 135 bhp and a 3.0-litre V6 at 194 bhp. In 1999 the V6 was raised to 210 bhp. Most listings close production in 2004, although Octane says the last car left Pininfarina in 2005. Autozine and Benzin.fr put the total built at about 107,600 cars, most of them sold in France according to Octane.
