Conquest

1984 – 1986

The Plymouth Conquest was a rear-wheel-drive turbocharged sport coupe sold as a captive import from 1984 to 1986, a rebadged Mitsubishi Starion. From 1987 it was sold only under the Chrysler name. It had a turbocharged 2.6-liter Mitsubishi four-cylinder driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual. With pop-up headlights and flared arches, it was one of the most performance-oriented cars ever to wear a Plymouth badge. It was a twin to the Chrysler/Dodge Conquest and the Starion.

The Story

Why the Conquest matters

The Plymouth Conquest was a Mitsubishi Starion sold in North America under a Chrysler badge. Mitsubishi began selling the rear-drive turbo coupe in the US in 1983, and for 1984 Chrysler took it on as a captive import, with Dodge and Plymouth versions sold side by side through 1986. The engine was the 2.6-litre G54B four with a turbocharger, and the Starion received an intercooler during the 1985 model year. From 1987 the car carried only the Chrysler name, and it ended after the 1989 model year. The Plymouth car was the same Starion with different badging, not a separate design.
