STORY

Pontiac introduced the 6000 for the 1982 model year as the front-wheel-drive A-body successor to the LeMans, sharing its platform with the Buick Century, Chevrolet Celebrity and Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. The base car came with a 2.5-liter four rated at 90 hp. The sport-tuned 6000 STE arrived for 1983 with a 135 hp 2.8-liter V6 and was named to the Car and Driver 10Best list from 1983 to 1985. A wagon followed for 1984, and that year the 6000 became the best-selling Pontiac line with over 122,000 sold. The 6000 ended after the 1991 model year, and the Grand Prix sedan took over for 1992.
