STORY

Acadian was a Canadian-market name, not a Pontiac nameplate at first. General Motors of Canada introduced it for 1962 so that Pontiac-Buick dealers had a compact to sell, since the Pontiac Tempest was not offered in Canada. It was a retrimmed Chevy II with a split grille, sold as its own make through mid-1971, when the Pontiac Ventura II replaced it. The name came back in 1976 on a Chevrolet Chevette sold by Canadian Pontiac-Buick dealers. It picked up Pontiac styling cues after the American T1000 appeared in 1981, and it ended with the 1987 model year.
