STORY

Catalina began in 1950 as a trim line on hardtops and became its own entry-level full-size Pontiac in 1959. The 1965 restyle brought Coke-bottle flanks, 121-inch wheelbases and the 389 and 421 V8s, and the 2+2 package grew into a performance model with a 338 hp 421. For 1967 the 400 and 428 V8s replaced them, and the 2+2 was dropped after 1967 on low sales. The 1971 redesign brought fuselage styling and a double-shell roof, but the ventilation system drew complaints within weeks and was revised for 1972. The Catalina ended after 1981.
