G6

2005 – 2010

The Pontiac G6 was a mid-size car produced from 2004 to 2010 on GM's Epsilon platform, replacing the Grand Am and sharing architecture with the Chevrolet Malibu and Saab 9-3. It was offered as a sedan, coupe and a retractable-hardtop convertible, with four-cylinder and V6 engines driving the front wheels. The performance-oriented G6 GXP used a 3.6L V6 with roughly 252 horsepower and sport tuning. As one of Pontiac's best-selling models in its final years, the G6 was central to the brand's volume before its 2010 closure.

The Story

Why the G6 matters

The Pontiac G6 appeared as a concept at the 2003 Detroit show and went on sale in 2004 as a 2005 model, replacing the Grand Am on GM's Epsilon platform. The base 2005 car had a 3.5-litre pushrod V6 with 200 hp, and the 2006 GTP carried a 3.9-litre V6 with 240 hp. A coupe joined in 2006, and a retractable hardtop convertible with a Karmann roof was offered for the 2006 to 2009 model years. US sales peaked at 157,644 in 2006. The coupe and convertible ended after 2009, and the sedan stopped in 2010 with the Pontiac brand; the last Pontiac was a white G6.
