STORY

The LeMans first appeared near the end of the 1961 model year as the top trim package of the compact Tempest, offered only as a two-door pillared coupe. It became a separate model in 1963 and moved to the A-body platform in 1964, the same car that carried the GTO option. A 326 cubic inch High Output V8 with a four-barrel carburetor, rated at 285 hp, was offered on the Tempest and LeMans from 1965. The mid-size line ended in 1981 in the United States. From 1988 to 1993 the name went on a captive import built by Daewoo in Bupyeong, Korea, with a 74 hp 1.6 L Opel-designed four-cylinder.
