STORY
The Montana began as a trim package on the Pontiac Trans Sport for 1997 and became a separate model for 1999, or 2000 in Canada, when the Trans Sport name was dropped. It used GM's U-body platform, shared with the Chevrolet Venture, Oldsmobile Silhouette and the Opel and Vauxhall Sintra. The first-generation engine was a 3.4 L V6 rated at 180 hp with a four-speed automatic. For 2005 the van was restyled with a higher, SUV-like nose and sold as the Montana SV6. Pontiac never replaced it directly; the GMC Acadia is considered its closest successor.
