STORY
Pontiac used the Sunbird name for the 1976 through 1994 model years. It began in September 1975 as the rear-drive H-body subcompact, the Pontiac counterpart of the Chevrolet Monza, and 479,967 were built through 1980. The front-drive J-body followed in 1982 as the J2000 and became plain Sunbird again in 1985, with the 1981 model year skipped. A convertible arrived for 1983, a 1.8 L turbo four with 150 hp ran from 1984 to 1986, and a 165 hp 2.0 L turbo was offered from 1987. A 3.1 L V6 of 140 hp arrived for 1991, and the Sunfire replaced the car for 1995.
