STORY
The 911 RSR is Porsche's factory GT endurance racer, the competition flagship built to homologated GT rules and campaigned by Porsche Motorsport in the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA. Introduced on the 991 platform in 2013 with a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six, it carried on the RSR lineage that stretches back to the Carrera RSR of the 1970s. For 2017 Porsche took the radical step of relocating the engine ahead of the rear axle, making it effectively the first mid-engined 911, a layout that improved weight distribution and aerodynamics. The definitive RSR-19 followed in 2019 with an enlarged 4.2-litre boxer, and in 2022 secured a long-sought outright GTE Pro class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans before the model was retired as Porsche shifted its top factory effort to the 963 LMDh prototype. Across a decade the 911 RSR family amassed class wins at Le Mans, Sebring, Daytona and Petit Le Mans, cementing the 911's reputation as one of endurance racing's most successful GT cars.
