STORY

The 919 Hybrid marked Porsche's triumphant return to top-flight prototype racing, and one of the most complete campaigns the sport has seen. Built for the LMP1 hybrid rules, it paired a compact turbo V4 with an energy-recovery system running the era's advanced 800-volt electrics.

After a tough debut in 2014, it delivered a Le Mans hat-trick, winning the 24 Hours in 2015, 2016 and 2017, and taking the World Endurance Championship each of those years. It was the car that carried Porsche's overall Le Mans tally to a record nineteen.

When LMP1 rules made the programme unsustainable, Porsche set the 919 free in "Evo" form, unrestricted, it smashed the outright Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record with a 5:19.5 in 2018, a fitting exit for a dominant machine.
