STORY

The Macan brought Porsche to the masses. Launched in 2014 as a compact SUV slotting beneath the Cayenne, it took the recipe that had rescued the company and made it smaller, sharper and far more affordable, and it promptly became Porsche's best-selling model worldwide.

Built on Audi Q5 underpinnings but retuned to a Porsche brief, it earned a reputation as the sports car of its class, blending genuine agility and a driver-focused cabin with everyday SUV practicality. For countless owners it was their first Porsche.

Its runaway success funded the wider range and broadened the brand without cheapening it, and in later years the Macan became the spearhead of Porsche's electric future, reborn as a fully battery-powered SUV on an all-new platform.
