Proton agreed the Tiara project with PSA in the mid-1990s, and a joint venture was formed in April 1996 to build it. The front was restyled to match Proton's Mitsubishi-based models. Sales stayed low, and low volume ended production. The Savvy of 2005 was its indirect successor.
The Proton Tiara is a small hatchback based on the Citroën AX, built in Malaysia from 1996 until about 2000. It has a 1.1-litre engine of Citroën origin and only a five-speed manual gearbox.
