STORY

Renault showed the 4CV to journalists on 26 September 1946 and to the public at the Paris motor show in October of that year, with a 760 cc four-cylinder engine. The first cars left the Ile Seguin line in August 1947. In 1950 the engine became a 747 cc unit, the 500,000th car was built in 1954, and Hino in Japan began assembling it in 1953. Production ended in 1961 with car number 1,105,547, after the 4CV had been built in Billancourt and in plants in several other countries.
