STORY

Renault presented the 12 at the Paris Motor Show in 1969 as a front-wheel-drive family saloon, with a 1.3-litre four-cylinder rated at 54 hp. The sporty 12 Gordini, with a 1.6-litre engine, was built from 1970 to 1974, and Renault made 5,188 of them. The TS with a twin-choke carburettor arrived in 1972, and a facelift with a new grille and revised dashboard followed in 1975. Production in France ended in 1980. These dates are for the French-built car; licence production elsewhere ran later, in Romania (Dacia) until 2004 and in Turkey until 2000.
