The Story

Why the Renault 15 matters

Renault launched the R15 coupe in 1971 as a sporty companion to the 12, built on its front-wheel-drive platform. The R15 TL had a 1.3-litre engine of 60 PS, and the R15 TS used a 1.6 at 90 PS. The 15 shared its fastback coupe body and R12 underpinnings with the Renault 17, the upmarket performance version sold alongside it. A second series with a new front end came in March 1976, and in 1979 production stopped, with the Fuego taking over.
