STORY
Renault presented the 4 at the 1961 Paris Motor Show as the successor to the 4CV, a front-wheel-drive hatchback with a small four-cylinder engine. A Parisienne special edition with its own trim details appeared in 1963. The 4 GTL, launched in 1978, used the 1.1-litre engine of the Renault 8. French production ended in 1992 after 31 years, and a Bye Bye limited edition of 1,000 cars marked the end. Across the whole run Renault built about 8.13 million Renault 4s.
