STORY

Michel Boué styled the first Renault 5, which Renault launched in 1972 as a small hatchback; first-generation production totalled about 5.5 million cars over 13 years. The Supercinq replaced it from 1984 as a careful update by Marcello Gandini, who has said he could not think of a better shape than the original. The sporting version of the Supercinq was the GT Turbo, a 1.4-litre turbo four with 85 kW (115 PS) and a top speed close to 200 km/h. The Supercinq stayed in production until 1996.
