STORY
The Renault 9 was introduced in September 1981 and won the 1982 European Car of the Year title. The closely related Renault 11 was the hatchback body, and the pair reached about 6.3 million cars in total. A mid-life facelift came in 1986. Western European production ended in 1989 as the Renault 19 took over, but the 9 kept going elsewhere: American Motors built a version in the USA, the line in Argentina closed in 1997, and production in Turkey ran until 2000.
