The 96 appeared in 1960 as the successor to the 93 and kept its rounded body. It used a two-stroke engine at first, and a Ford V4 was added in 1967. Erik Carlsson won the Monte Carlo Rally with a 96 in 1962 and 1963. It was built until 1980.
The 96 was a small front-wheel-drive Saab sedan built from 1960 to 1980, first with a two-stroke engine and later with a Ford V4.
