The European Forester 2.0 Turbo uses a detuned version of the turbocharged EJ205 engine, making 170 PS against up to 250 PS for the Japanese S/tb. It is a first-generation (SF) all-wheel-drive SUV with a manual gearbox, sold in Europe from 1998 to 2000 in the launch phase before the facelift. It gave European buyers a turbo Forester with more modest output.

STORY

The Subaru Forester debuted in 1997 as a compact crossover SUV built on the Impreza platform, blending wagon practicality with raised ground clearance and standard all-wheel drive. It grew steadily larger and more SUV-like across generations while retaining boxer engines, including turbocharged XT models in the earlier years. It remains one of Subaru's core global models, moving to the Subaru Global Platform with the SK generation.
