GF 1.6 Coupe (1st gen)

A22 · 1978–1979FWD

The Leone GF 1.6 Coupe was the two-door body of the first-generation A22 range in the US, sold in 1978 and 1979. It has front-wheel drive, a manual gearbox and the 1.6-litre EA71 boxer four with 67 hp. Where the 4WD wagon was about utility, this coupe was the sportier-looking, two-wheel-drive way into the Leone line.

STORY

The Subaru Leone was a compact car produced from 1971 to 1994, serving as Subaru's mainstream global model and one of the first mass produced four-wheel-drive passenger cars. Sold in sedan, coupe, wagon, and hatchback forms, it spread Subaru's flat-four AWD reputation worldwide, especially in snowy and rural markets. The Impreza replaced it in 1994, with the Legacy covering the larger end of the range.
