A22 · 1975–1979FWD

The Leone GLF is a front-wheel-drive sedan from the first-generation A22 Leone, built from 1975 to 1979 and sold on international markets. A 1.6-litre four-cylinder boxer makes about 67 horsepower through a manual gearbox. The A22 generation is where Subaru pioneered optional four-wheel drive in a passenger car, but this GLF is the plain two-wheel-drive version.

STORY

The Subaru Leone was a compact car produced from 1971 to 1994, serving as Subaru's mainstream global model and one of the first mass produced four-wheel-drive passenger cars. Sold in sedan, coupe, wagon, and hatchback forms, it spread Subaru's flat-four AWD reputation worldwide, especially in snowy and rural markets. The Impreza replaced it in 1994, with the Legacy covering the larger end of the range.
