GL 1.8 (3rd gen)

AA/AL · 1984–1987FWD

The Leone GL 1.8 is the front-wheel-drive sedan of the third generation, sold on international markets from 1984 to 1987. A 1.8-litre four-cylinder boxer makes about 90 horsepower and works with a manual gearbox. Without turbo or four-wheel drive, it was the plain, economical entry point of the launch-phase range, before the North American cars took the Loyale name.

STORY

The Subaru Leone was a compact car produced from 1971 to 1994, serving as Subaru's mainstream global model and one of the first mass produced four-wheel-drive passenger cars. Sold in sedan, coupe, wagon, and hatchback forms, it spread Subaru's flat-four AWD reputation worldwide, especially in snowy and rural markets. The Impreza replaced it in 1994, with the Legacy covering the larger end of the range.
