DL 1.6 4WD (2nd gen)

AB · 1979–19844WD

The Leone DL 1.6 4WD sedan of the second-generation AB line, built from 1979 to 1984 for international markets. It keeps the 1.6-litre four-cylinder boxer, about 67 horsepower, with a manual gearbox and four-wheel drive. The AB generation broadened Subaru's all-wheel-drive boxer lineup around the world, and this is its entry-level 4WD saloon.

STORY

The Subaru Leone was a compact car produced from 1971 to 1994, serving as Subaru's mainstream global model and one of the first mass produced four-wheel-drive passenger cars. Sold in sedan, coupe, wagon, and hatchback forms, it spread Subaru's flat-four AWD reputation worldwide, especially in snowy and rural markets. The Impreza replaced it in 1994, with the Legacy covering the larger end of the range.
