The Japanese counterpart of the BG Outback, sold as the Legacy Grand Wagon from August 1995 and as the Lancaster from 1997. It has the 2.5-litre EJ25D four-cylinder, rated at 175 PS after the mid-1996 revision (160 PS before it), with an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. It was built from 1995 to 1998.

STORY

The Outback launched in 1994 as a raised version of the Legacy wagon with off-road trim, credited with helping popularize the crossover concept in North America. It grew into a standalone nameplate with permanent symmetrical all-wheel drive and boxer engines, remaining one of Subaru's best-selling models.
