The US-market Outback sedan after the May 2001 facelift, which brought a deeper front end and returned the six-star emblem to the grille. It keeps the 2.5-litre EJ251 four-cylinder at 165 hp with an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, on the Legacy sedan body with Limited equipment and no folding rear seat. It was sold from 2001 to 2004.

STORY

The Outback launched in 1994 as a raised version of the Legacy wagon with off-road trim, credited with helping popularize the crossover concept in North America. It grew into a standalone nameplate with permanent symmetrical all-wheel drive and boxer engines, remaining one of Subaru's best-selling models.
