The Rex 1.2 (A201F) is the front-wheel-drive entry to the returned Subaru Rex name, a compact crossover that is a rebadged second-generation Daihatsu Rocky on the DNGA-A platform. It uses a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with about 87 horsepower and an automatic gearbox. It went on sale from 11 November 2022, thirty years after the last kei-car Rex.

STORY

The Rex was Subaru's long-running kei car line that began in 1972 and served as an affordable entry model, rear-engined at first and front-wheel drive from 1981. Successive generations offered two- and four-stroke engines and optional four-wheel drive before the Vivio replaced it in 1992.
