Rex 1.2 e-SMART HYBRID

A201F/A202F/A210F · 2025–presentFWD

The Rex 1.2 e-SMART HYBRID (A202F) is the hybrid version of the Japanese Subaru Rex crossover, on sale from 12 June 2025. It is a series hybrid: a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, coded WA-VEX, acts as the generator, while the electric traction motor delivers 106 PS to the front wheels through a single-speed drive. Like the rest of the range it is a rebadged Daihatsu Rocky, not a kei car.

STORY

The Rex was Subaru's long-running kei car line that began in 1972 and served as an affordable entry model, rear-engined at first and front-wheel drive from 1981. Successive generations offered two- and four-stroke engines and optional four-wheel drive before the Vivio replaced it in 1992.
