KM1/KM2 · 1983–1984FWD

The Rex Combi Turbo FWD is the turbocharged front-drive Rex, built from 1983 to 1984 for Japan as a front-wheel-drive hatchback of the second generation (KM1/KM2). Its 0.544-litre two-cylinder EK23-T, available from December 1983, makes 41 PS gross and is paired with a manual gearbox. STORY

The Rex was Subaru's long-running kei car line that began in 1972 and served as an affordable entry model, rear-engined at first and front-wheel drive from 1981. Successive generations offered two- and four-stroke engines and optional four-wheel drive before the Vivio replaced it in 1992.
