Sambar Truck 360

K153/K163 · 1966–1973RWD

The Sambar Truck 360 of the second generation (K153/K163) is the pickup sold in international markets from 1966 to 1973. A rear two-cylinder, 360 cc engine gives about 25 horsepower, and drive goes to the rear wheels through a manual gearbox. Its generation received a dummy grille and the reed-valve EK33 engine in the 1970 update, so the later trucks look and run differently from the first ones.

STORY

The Sambar is Subaru's kei truck and microvan, introduced in 1961 with a rear-engine, rear- or all-wheel-drive layout unusual for its class. Prized for traction and packaging, it was built in-house for decades before becoming a rebadged Daihatsu Hijet in 2012.
