KR/KT · 1982–1987RWD

The Sambar Try RR is the passenger-oriented van of the launch phase of the fourth-generation Sambar (KR/KT), sold in Japan from 1982 to 1987. At that point the people-carrying version was still called the Sambar Try. A rear-mounted two-cylinder EK23 of 544 cc, rated at roughly 28 PS, drives the rear wheels through a manual gearbox. It was one of the last two-cylinder Sambars.

STORY

The Sambar is Subaru's kei truck and microvan, introduced in 1961 with a rear-engine, rear- or all-wheel-drive layout unusual for its class. Prized for traction and packaging, it was built in-house for decades before becoming a rebadged Daihatsu Hijet in 2012.
