The Impreza WRX STi sedan of the late GC8 years, sold as Version V from 3 September 1998 and Version VI from 6 September 1999. A 2.0-litre turbocharged boxer drives all four wheels through a five-speed manual. Subaru listed it at 2,919,000 yen before tax in both years. Version V brought multi-reflector headlamps, a new front bumper, inverted struts and the Boxer Phase II engine; Version VI added a front under-spoiler and a revised rear wing section.

STORY

The WRX began as the performance turbocharged version of the Impreza in 1992, powered by a turbo boxer engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive that made it well known in rallying and among enthusiasts. Subaru later spun the WRX off as its own model line, with the STI variant serving as the high-performance flagship.
