Impreza WRX

GD · 2002–2002AWD

The 2002 Impreza WRX was the first WRX sold in the United States, a sedan with a turbocharged 2.0-litre boxer engine rated at 227 hp. A manual gearbox sent the power to all four wheels. It brought the rally-bred WRX to American buyers, in the launch phase of the generation with round 'bugeye' headlamps.

STORY

The WRX began as the performance turbocharged version of the Impreza in 1992, powered by a turbo boxer engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive that made it well known in rallying and among enthusiasts. Subaru later spun the WRX off as its own model line, with the STI variant serving as the high-performance flagship.
