The Alto debuted in 1979 as a kei-class commercial hatchback and grew over nine generations into one of Suzuki's most important nameplates worldwide. In markets such as India, a slightly larger version (the Alto 800 and K10) became a best-seller, while Japan kept the 0.66-litre kei versions for its domestic tax bracket.
