Chrysler Europe designed the Horizon to replace the Simca 1100. It went on sale in 1978 as the Simca Horizon in France and as the Chrysler Horizon in other European markets. It won the European Car of the Year award for 1979, with 251 points. After PSA took over Chrysler's European operations in 1979, the Chrysler and Simca names were dropped and the car became the Talbot Horizon throughout Europe. It was built until 1986, with petrol engines from 1.1 to 1.5 litres and, from 1982, a 1.9-litre diesel.
