Tank began as a model line under Great Wall Motor's premium Wey brand and was spun off in 2021 as a standalone off-road sub-brand. The 300 was its founding product. It was first shown in 2020 and went on sale in December 2020. It has a body-on-frame ladder chassis and a low-range transfer case with front and rear differential locks, in retro boxy styling aimed squarely at the Ford Bronco and Suzuki Jimny. Demand in China outstripped supply so badly that early cars had long waiting lists and grey-market premiums. Powertrains started with a 2.0-litre turbo four and a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic. The Hi4-T plug-in hybrid came later and adds a motor in the transmission housing for roughly 400 hp of system output, while keeping full-time four-wheel drive.
A compact, retro-styled body-on-frame off-roader that became a best-seller in China and Tank's first big hit.

The Story
Why the 300 mattersTrims
3 trims · 2021–nowThe car that established the Tank brand: ladder-frame construction, part-time four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case and locking differentials, and deliberately retro upright bodywork. Launched with a 2.0T petrol four and eight-speed automatic; a 2.4-litre diesel served some markets and the Hi4-T plug-in hybrid arrived from 2023, along with wider export to the Middle East, Australia, South Africa and Latin America.
