The Tank 400 sits between the compact 300 and the large 500. It reached the Chinese market in 2023 as a five-seat mid-size ladder-frame SUV. It was notable for launching first with Great Wall's Hi4-T plug-in hybrid system, not a pure combustion engine. It combines a 2.0-litre turbo four with an electric motor built into the nine-speed automatic, and a battery that gives a useful all-electric commuting range. Like the rest of the family, it keeps a proper low-range transfer case, locking differentials and a disconnecting front anti-roll bar, and does not use a crossover platform.
