STORY

The 4Runner began in October 1983 as the N60, built on the Hilux pickup, and North American sales started in 1984 as a 1984.5 model. In Japan the first four generations were sold as the Hilux Surf, whose first generation went on sale in May 1984. Later generations were the N120 in 1989, the N180 in August 1995, the N210 in August 2002 and the N280 in 2009. The sixth generation, the N500, was introduced in 2024, replacing the N280.
