STORY
Toyota announced the 86 on 2 February 2012 and opened Japanese sales on 6 April, naming it after the AE86 Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno of 1983 to 1987. Development was shared with Fuji Heavy Industries, which assembled the car at its Gunma Main Plant and sold its own version as the Subaru BRZ; the 1,998 cc flat-four used Toyota's D-4S injection and made 200 PS, driving the rear wheels. North America took it as the Scion FR-S from 4 June 2012 and Europe as the GT86. The Japanese facelift reached showrooms on 1 August 2016 and lifted manual cars to 207 PS and 212 Nm, which Toyota quoted in the United States as 205 hp SAE against the 200 of the Scion; automatics stayed at 200 PS and European cars at 200 DIN hp. A 2.4-litre GR 86 followed in Japan on 28 October 2021.
